One of my personal favourites , maybe a bit old school but when done smooth and fully planing still an eye catcher to many.
The idea to make it look real cool is to go full speed , get back winded as early as possible and planing out of the jibe as if nothing happened.
Key elements are getting back winded with the same technique as when fast tacking , once back winded control your rig and keep the board carving by foot steering .
- Fully planing across the wind , bear away to increase speed/ reduce sail pressure and look for a nice flat piece of water.
- Unhook from harness , take both feet out of the straps, move forward towards base plate and (like in the normal fast tack) place front foot in front of the mast foot.
- Change side to get back winded by jumping/slipping around the mast while simultaneously bringing the rig past your body to windward so the new mast harm is straight again , sailing hand just loosely on the boom (no pushing!!)
- Place new back foot in front of back foot strap with your heel on inside rail for proper carving and place your weight on that back foot (again carving is the idea!) , keep front leg straight
- When going through the eye of the wind extend sailing arm and bring your mast arm towards your body , allowing the wind to catch the new side of the sail. TIP: turning your head over your front shoulder into new sailing direction will support this (where the head goes the body follows)
- Once wind catches new side of the sail just hold on , when carving out of the jibe , put on a big smile and get back in the straps and harness , well done !!
